Ski Patrol Training Seminar
For over 20 years the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol Training Seminar has provided National Ski Patrollers an excellent opportunity to improve their emergency management, toboggan handling, and skiing skills. The seminar has provided intensive skills instruction to many aspiring Senior Program candidates, as well as entry-level patrollers and toboggan-handling instructors. All have enjoyed the three days of great spring skiing at Squaw Valley’s awesome mountain.

This year’s Ski Patrol Training Seminar will continue the tradition, meeting the continually changing needs of our organization and the National Ski Patrol (NSP). The seminar provides a friendly, non-threatening, and often challenging setting to practice toboggan-handling skills. Feedback is provided via demonstration, drills, guided practice, and sometimes video recording.

We split the day into two teaching / educational portions. One half of each day will be dedicated to toboggan handling, teaching, and feedback sessions. The other session will be spent in a ski enhancement seminar directed by PSIA-certified Squaw Valley Ski Instructors.

Senior Sled Training

As is the tradition for this seminar, we will conduct evaluations for those patrollers involved with the Senior Program. Bring your Senior documentation, signed by your Patrol Representative, indicating that you are already participating in a Senior Program. We will not have these forms available at the clinic.

The Seminar is also open to entry-level patrol candidates seeking to gain intensive skiing and toboggan handling practice prior to their final evaluations. A progressive variety of terrain will be used as technical skills increase over the course of the three days.

A successful new feature is the inclusion of teaching enhancement segments that provide an environment for existing toboggan instructors to not only teach, but to re-certify their teaching skills as required by the NSP. This “train the trainer event” provides an opportunity to review teaching techniques, discuss their effectiveness, and practice them in an actual training environment.

Length: 3 days, typically Wednesday through Friday in the second week of March. Specific dates to be announced annually.

Cost for all 3 days: approximately $150 to $200 (includes all instruction, lift tickets and Thursday dinner). Specific cost to be announced annually.
